FAQs

Can I live at home while participating in 5th Year?

No. Learning to live independently and being accountable to others are important life lessons. You’ll share a one-bedroom dorm with one other student.

What's included in the dorm?

There are two beds in the bedroom along with a community bathroom and kitchen. You will be responsible for bringing bedding and pillows.

Are the dorms co-ed?

No.

Will there be extracurricular activities and events?

Yes. There are organized team building and social activities through 5th Year and other opportunities through The University of Toledo.

Is there a cost to use the athletic facilities?

No. You’ll receive a University of Toledo ID (Rocket Card) to access athletic and recreation facilities.

What’s available at the recreation center?

The University of Toledo Student Recreation Center offers free weights, strength and cardio equipment, a cycling studio and fitness rooms. Students also have access to basketball and volleyball courts, an indoor soccer arena, a climbing wall, and an aquatic center with an Olympic-sized pool, sauna, and more.

When is the Recreation Center open?

Monday-Thursday: 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday: 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Can I bring my car to campus?

Yes. You’re encouraged to bring your vehicle, but our program partners will also help coordinate transportation when necessary.

Can I visit my family or invite them to visit me on campus?

Yes. You have free time after 5 p.m. on weekdays and during weekends.

How can I contact campus security?

You should call 911 in case of an emergency.

Which emergency agencies are located nearby?

The UToledo Police Department and Toledo Fire Department work closely with the university to respond to emergencies.

Do I have to pay for parking?

The cost of a University of Toledo parking pass is included in the program fee.

Is there a meal plan?

Yes. 5th Year provides a partial meal plan for students that includes 10 meals per week. Students can go to the Student Union Eatery or Ottawa East Dining Room to use these meal swipes.

What personal items can/should I bring?

The University of Toledo will provide the following in each dorm:

  • Two twin beds
  • A desk and chair, shared dresser
  • Wireless internet
  • Toilet paper
  • You’re responsible for the following items:

    Appliances: Microwave*, mini fridge*, computer, TV
    Personal items: Clothing, toiletries, dental hygiene products, medication, first aid items, grooming tools, extra-long twin bedsheets, pillows and pillowcases, blankets/comforters
    Furnishings: Storage containers, shelves, wastebaskets, decorations
    Cleaning supplies:Laundry detergent, laundry basket or hamper
    Extra supplies: Extension cords, three-prong electrical adapters, power strips, batteries

    *Microwaves and mini fridges can be rented from the University at an additional cost or you can bring your own.
